Skytop Mountain Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course located in Port Matilda, PA, less than 10 minutes from State College and Penn State University. Carved out of 270 acres of forest in the Bald Eagle Valley of the Appalachian Mountains, Skytop is one of the most scenic and challenging rounds of golf in central Pennsylvania.
The course was designed by Jim Polinchok and opened its front nine in 2006, with the back nine following in 2009. It plays over 7,000 yards from the championship tees at par 72, with a slope rating of 147 — a true test for any golfer. The front nine runs along the valley floor with five holes bordering Bald Eagle Creek, while the back nine climbs the mountainside delivering dramatic elevation changes and sweeping views of the Allegheny Front. Hole 16, a 191-yard par 3 with a 100-foot elevation drop, is a standout that golfers remember long after the round. Five sets of tees and fully irrigated bentgrass fairways, greens, and tees make Skytop Mountain Golf Club a welcoming challenge for players of all skill levels. The facility includes a driving range, putting green, and a dedicated short game area.
